Garbage disposal
A common feature in US households, but less so in Europe, is the sink-attached garbage shredding unit. This grinds down food waste into small particulates, small enough to be flushed down a conventional waste pipe with water.
This is sometimes preferred to large amounts of food waste going to landfill, although some districts in the US briefly banned them because they feared it would take away work from garbage collectors, coupled with worries that the increased load on waste treatment facilities would cause an overload.
In practice, these can only be installed by our plumbers, with general maintenance or repair left to the manufacturer, or other certified repair company.
